 June Mission Project

Mission_June.jpg

Presbyterian Urban Missions SPARKS Program

The Urban Missions has an after-school program for children that they expand during the summer months to a full-day event. During this time, they provide 3 meals to 30 at-risk children. They develop daily activities for the kiddos, including games, field trips, reading activities, arts and craft projects, and music programs. They also plant a raised garden which the kids tend and eventually get to plan menus from and eat the produce they have grown. All in all, the summer SPARKS program is a well-planned day that provides lots of opportunities to nurture these kids.

This is our June Mission Project. We are asking that you consider one of the following options in support of this project:

Sponsor a child for the summer program at $75. If you choose this option, please make your check out to SFPC and write in the memo line: Urban Missions.

Purchase one of the following items:  Dodge ball or 4-square ball,  jump ropes, or swimsuits for elementary school kids.

The Presbyterian Women will collect for this Mission Project during their luncheon on June 12. If several persons wish to go together to sponsor a child, that would be a welcome idea. Also if one of the Sunday School classes or PW Circles wishes to sponsor a child, please consider this!

Cents-Ability.jpg

Cents-Ability (formerly called “2 Cents a Meal”) is a national hunger action program started in 1974. Since then nearly 100 presbyteries have become involved in this important work. It is the committee’s hope that everyone will begin making it a habit of setting aside 5-10 cents for every meal, every day, every week and every month. The committee has available can labels and labeled Zip-Loc baggies for everyone to take home. These are located on the Mission credenza beneath the bulletin board near the kitchen.

Bring your donation to church on the last Sunday of each month. The children in the congregation will take up this special collection during our worship. The Mission Committee will disperse the Cents-Ability monies to:  the Presbyterian Urban Mission for food (60%), the Edmond Mobile Meals (20%), and the Presbyterian Hunger Program (20%).

Our Missions

Santa Fe has a central guiding principle for missions: to offer opportunities for our members and visitors to be servants to others in our local and global community. Each month at least one project is offered for persons to donate items to local and state organizations. Each quarter, monetary donations are made to several local programs that our church has traditionally supported, including:
  • Hope Center of Edmond,
  • Edmond Mobile Meals,
  • Presbyterian Urban Missions,
  • Citizens Caring for Children,
  • Infant Crisis Center,
  • Goodland Academy,
  • Edmond Animal Shelter.

Each year, an international program is featured for either monetary or in-kind donations.

In 2009, we dedicated our community garden and named it “Evelyn’s Garden” in loving memory of a faithful and beloved member.

The Mission Committee also organizes and collects the Special Offerings of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) throughout the year:

  • One Great Hour of Sharing, for anti-hunger, disaster-relief and self-development programs;
  • Peacemaking, which funds much of the PC(USA)’s peacemaking efforts at national and local levels;
  • Christmas Joy, which supports racial-ethnic schools and colleges and the Board of Pensions’ assistance programs for retired church workers; and
  • Pentecost, which helps pay for programs for needy and at-risk children, teens and young adults.

Although our mission projects are organized by the Mission Committee, other groups within the church also provide monetary support to organizations, including our youth, Sunday School classes, and women's circles and groups.
